…Deborah Szekely (pronounced SAY-Kay) is regarded as the godmother of the modern-day fitness movement. A notable philanthropist and activist, Deborah Szekely has been a lifelong warrior for wellness and leadership training. In the forefront of the natural health and wellness movement through foods and lifestyle, she has been organic farming since 1930. She has run for Congress, served on the President’s Council of Physical Fitness for Presidents Nixon, Reagan, and Ford, and served as a delegate for UNESCO. In 1940, she co-founded Rancho La Puerta, the vibrant fitness and spa retreat in northwestern Mexico that continues to evolve, remaining in the vanguard of health & wellness philosophy. In 2012, Deborah founded a non-profit called Wellness Warriors to support wellness initiatives in Congress. Her remarkable fundraising has supported these national projects along with local initiatives, including preservation and development of San Diego’s notable theatre, The Old Globe.
