“I thank San Diego Magazine for continuing to elevate the visibility of outstanding women. It is an honor to be recognized among this remarkable and diverse group of accomplished leaders,” said Dr. Guarneri, medical director of Guarneri Integrative Health, Inc. at Pacific Pearl La Jolla and president of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM).

She added, “Women make most of the family healthcare decisions. They are essential researchers, networkers and advocates – and I am honored to raise awareness and educate these change-makers with my work.”

Board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, Integrative Medicine, Dr. Guarneri also is the past president of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM) and served as senior advisor to the Atlantic Health System for the Chambers Center for Well Being. For several years, she served as chair of the Bravewell Clinical Network, comprised of nine leading clinical centers that deliver integrative care. She is author of “The Heart Speaks” and The Great Courses DVD series, “The Science of Natural Healing.”

Dr. Guarneri’s leadership has elevated the visibility of the San Diego region to the forefront of the evolving US healthcare paradigm by cultivating inter-professional collaborations, education and research for integrative medicine. She founded and was medical director of Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in San Diego for 15 years. In 2014, she founded Guarneri Integrative Health, Inc. at Pacific Pearl La Jolla where she practices integrative cardiology and leads a team of experts in conventional, integrative and natural medicine. She helped create and continues to guide several national integrative medicine-based conferences in San Diego that draw thousands of healthcare providers from across the U.S. and globally. The conferences feature inter-professional education focusing on health and wellness. Additionally, the AIHM, an international organization whewre she serves as president, is now based at Pacific Pearl La Jolla, in San Diego.

The San Diego conferences draw high percentages of women in healthcare, who are seeking to further their education, expand into integrative medicine and find ways to return to a deep sense of satisfaction in their careers.  Both men and women attendees come from across the U.S.; however, many nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers attend from numerous healthcare systems across San Diego County.

“We hope this award honoring Dr. Guarneri’s accomplishments will also encourage San Diegans to join her at the AIHM Conference, Oct. 30 through Nov. 3, 2016 at Paradise Point,” said Rauni Prittinen King, RN, executive director, Guarneri Integrative Health, Inc. “Our ongoing development of this national conference with a focus on evidence-based integrative holistic medicine, education and treatment of the whole person—mind, body and spirit—is changing the trajectory of healthcare education and practice in the U.S.”
